Whincup re-signs with Triple Eight

Triple Eight will retain its winning combination of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes for the foreseeable future with the news Whincup will remain with the Holden team for the next three seasons.

The 29-year-old has won three championships, 53 race wins and three Bathurst 1000 victories in his six years with the team. And despite rumours linking him with a move overseas, he says he’s committed to V8 Supercars having put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with Triple Eight starting from 2013.

“I am very pleased to confirm that I have renewed my agreement with Triple Eight Race Engineering for another three years,” Whincup says.

“It feels great knowing that I am settled long term, in an environment that I am happy with, and that has the enthusiasm to continue to set the benchmark.

“I look forward to working with and sharing more challenges and success with my friends at TeamVodafone and their team of valued corporate partners. It’s also an important time for me to be close to my family.

“My whole focus is on this years V8 Supercar Championship, however I look forward to working with the crew and being a part of the development process of ‘Car of the Future’.”

With Whincup and Lowndes both committing to the team into the Car of the Future era, extending their partnership that began in 2006 for a further three seasons, the team is confident it can continue its winning form.

“We are all over the moon to be able to confirm that Jamie will be staying with us for the foreseeable future,” says Managing Director Roland Dane.

“With both Jamie and Craig on board I know that we have the strongest driver line-up in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

“Jamie has time and time again proven to be not only the ultimate winner but also the ultimate fighter.

“Car of the Future is massively important to us as a team and there is no doubt in my mind that by having Jamie on-board we will go into 2013 with the best possible chance of winning in Adelaide next year.”
